Despite La Palma's limited size, there is so much to see. Whether you want to explore the beautiful scenery, the charming historical towns or the many museums and visitor centers around the island. Listed below you’ll see our suggestions for experiences and excursions, which can either be done on your own or as part of our guided tours for a little extra cost.

SANTA CRUZ

The capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, is like a historic time pocket with quirky houses, cobbled streets and colorful wooden balconies decorated by beautiful flowers.

VULCANIC CENTER AND LAVA TUBES

At the newly opened volcanic center there's an interesting interactive exhibition about the volcanic activity of the island. Futher more you can walk through a real lava tube.

BOAT TRIPS

Several companies in Tazacorte offer boat trips along La Palma's beautiful rocky coast and many caves. If you are lucky, you can also spot a whale or playful dolphins.

A short hike through a green and lush laurel forest leads to a rushing waterfall. There's an almost magical atmosphere in the ancient forest. It's like a fairy tale.

WINE TASTING

Good wine is made from grapes grown in the island's black volcanic soil. Most bodegas offer guided tours and wine tasting.

RUM DESTILLERY

The Aldea distillery is a time pocket where rum and rum liqueur are made according to old recipe of locally grown sugar cane. Daily tours and tastings.

La Palma is one of the best places in the whole world to observe space. Among the many observatories you’ll find Gran Telescopio Canarias, the world's largest.

LAS NIEVES

The island's oldest church houses the sacred Señora de las Nieves. She is the protagonist of the La Bajada de Virgin festival, which is celebrated every five years (next time 2020)

The natural turquoise blue pool contrasts sharply with its surrounding black lava rocks. The pool is like an oasis protected from the high waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

It's the highest point of the island reaching 2,426 m. Here you can literally walk on the edge of a 9 km volcanic crater and enjoy the breathtaking views.

Ramón Barreto has revived an old craft. He makes beautiful pots and bowls without the use of modern lathe. They are exact replicas of the style of the native population.

The changing colors of Fuencaliente's salt pools are so amazing that they have become one of La Palma's most photographed motifs. The salt is also worth tasting.

HIKING

There are 1,000 km of beautiful and well-marked hiking trails at La Palma, making the island a true paradise for nature lovers.

An archaeological park with natural caves. Here, in the 18th century, the first stone carvings of the Canary Islands were found.

La Palma is known for its hand-rolled cigars. The art is demonstrated at the cigar museum, where you also learn about cultivation and the drying process.

TENEGUÍA

A winding path leads to the top of the volca-no Teneguía. Here you can feel the warmth of the volcano, and at the visitor center can learn about the volcanic activity.

Both the black sandy beach and the hike to get there are indescribably beautiful. The scenery is framed by vertical rock walls with lush vegetation and natural springs.

It's the largest national park on the island. Visitors can enjoy dizzying views spiced with small streams and waterfalls, dense spruce forests and steep canyons.

The Naval Museum in Santa Cruz is a great experience. It's housed inside a full scale copy of Columbus' ship Santa Maria. Five centuries of maritime history is on display.

The colored waterfall is one of nature's most stunning pieces of art. Regardless the season and the amount of water, both the waterfall and the surroundings are worth the walk.

You can experience one of the Wolrd's most impressive star clouds in La Palma. This is due to the minimal air and light pollution.

A beautiful park decorated with mosaics and a forest of local plants. The park is designed by the island's famous artist Luis Morera.

The city of Los Llanos is the island's econo-mical capital. Here's a pleasant pedestrian street with shady laurel trees, fountains and picturesque Canary houses.

At the Silk Museum Las Hilanderas the traditional silk production is kept alive. You'll see silkworm breeding as well as weaving and embroidery of the fabrics.
